The 'C’Osa' Gamay del Trasimeno Riserva, produced by the winery Madrevite, represents an intense and rich interpretation of this traditional variety from Trasimeno. Don't be deceived by the name, as Gamay del Trasimeno has nothing to do with Gamay del Beaujolais; on the contrary, it is a variety from the Grenache family, also known as Gamay Perugino, cultivated on the shores of Lago di Trasimeno for centuries.
It is presumed that this variety was introduced in the 19th century by Sardinian shepherds who migrated, bringing with them shoots of Cannonau, another Grenache grape variety, from which the biotype of Gamay del Trasimeno originated. The intriguing name of this label, 'C’Osa', derives from the distortion of the expression "chi osa," which means "who dares."
The wine 'C’Osa' Gamay del Trasimeno Riserva is exclusively made from Gamay grapes grown on clayey and sandy soils, without the use of synthetic chemicals. After careful manual harvesting when the grapes reach full maturity, 20% of them are whole-cluster pressed in stainless steel tanks, allowing spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts. The subsequent maturation phase takes place in concrete tanks for six months and in large barrels for twelve months. At the end of this process, the wine is bottled and, after further bottle aging, is marketed.
The color of 'C’Osa' Gamay del Trasimeno Riserva is a light ruby red. The aromatic profile is characterized by fruity notes of raspberry, strawberry, and marasca, accompanied by more complex tones of clove and leather. The taste is savory, elegant, and presents an intense freshness, with fine tannins and a prolonged taste persistence that makes the sensory experience unforgettable.
