Winery Antonio Lopes Ribeiro
Casa de Mouraz was founded by Antonio Ribeiro and Sara Dionisio, who abandoned their respective jobs in Lisbon to pursue their family adventure of sustainable viticulture and the production of authentic wines. The town of Mouraz, located in the heart of the Demarcated Region of Dao, is where Antonio was born and where his family has cultivated vineyards using eco-friendly methods for many generations. It is also where the terroir is formed and protected by its people, where old and new vineyards coexist with pristine forests of pine, oak, chestnut and cork trees. This rich biodiversity is reflected in the personality and complexity of Casa de Mouraz wines, which are a testament to their passion and commitment to this unique place.
The vineyards consist of numerous small plots across different soils (granite and clay) and altitudes ranging from 150 to 400 meters. The key indigenous grape varieties include TOURIGA NACIONAL, TINTA RORIZ, ALFROCHEIRO, JAEN, BAGA, and AGUA SANTA for red wines, and MALVASIA FINA, BICAL, CERCEAL, ENCRUZADO, and ALVARINHO for white wines. All vineyards have been certified organic by ECOCERT since 1997, and biodynamic practices were introduced in 2006. In the winery, the wine-making process involves normally composed vineyards with many different varieties, which embodies the essence of the terroir. The ALR project (Antonio Lopes Ribeiro) was established in 2009, which involves vine cultivation and wine production outside the DAO region, adhering to the same organic and biodynamic principles. "Authentic wines" are also available from the demarcated regions of DOURO and VINHO VERDE. The work carried out by CASA DE MOURAZ has received international recognition, with the inclusion of the company in the prestigious biodynamic wine group "RENAISSANCE DES APPELLATIONS" since 2009.
