Winery Madrevite
The Madrevite Winery, overlooking the picturesque Lake Trasimeno in the town of Castiglione del Lago, is an authentic interpreter of the charming Umbrian-Tuscan territory. Founded in 2003 by the Chiucchiurlotto family, involved in viticulture for three generations, the winery stands out for its production philosophy focused on sustainability, both environmentally and economically. This guiding principle translates into a rational viticulture aimed at preserving biodiversity and the health of soil, plants, and animals.
The 11 hectares of vineyards owned by the Madrevite estate host a variety of traditional and non-traditional grape varieties, including Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Syrah, Trebbiano Spoletino, Grechetto, and the prized Gamay del Trasimeno, a biotype of Grenache Noir cultivated on the shores of Lake Trasimeno for centuries. Cultivation takes place without the use of synthetic chemicals on sandy and clayey soils, often enriched with pebbles, at an altitude between 280 and 350 meters above sea level. Surrounded by olive groves, woods, and fallow land, the vineyards contribute to creating a diversified and flourishing ecosystem.
Manual harvesting occurs only when the grapes reach the perfect stage of ripeness, followed by careful grape selection. In the cellar, fermentations are entrusted exclusively to indigenous yeasts, carried out in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, sometimes partially with whole-cluster fermentation, with gentle pressings. For aging, tanks of cement or stainless steel, as well as French oak barriques and large barrels, are used, depending on the specific characteristics of each wine.
The Madrevite winery stands out for its offering of almost exclusively single-varietal wines, a result of the Chiucchiurlotto family's desire to showcase the qualities of each cultivated grape variety, revealing its specific affinity with the surrounding territory. Meticulous attention to the production process, combined with a strong connection to the land, characterizes the winery's approach, aiming to provide consumers with true representations of the territory through its distinctive wines.
